New York man sentenced to prison for drug trafficking in Franklin County

A New York resident was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Bangor, Maine, for drug trafficking offenses involving heroin, fentanyl, and cocaine base.

Oscarlin Peguero Ortiz, 27, received a sentence of 30 months in prison and three years of supervised release from U.S. District Judge Stacey D. Neumann. Ortiz had entered a guilty plea on July 23, 2025.

Court records show that the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office began investigating suspected drug trafficking at a residence in Avon. In July 2020, law enforcement executed a search warrant at the location and found Ortiz inside. Officers seized about 85 grams of a mixture containing heroin and fentanyl as well as 40 grams of crack cocaine during their search. Authorities also confiscated digital scales, drug paraphernalia, and more than $8,000 in cash.

The investigation involved the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, Maine State Police, Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
