Jonathan Grant, a resident of Barrington, New Hampshire, was sentenced on March 26 in U.S. District Court in Portland for illegally possessing a firearm and ammunition as a felon.

Chief U.S. District Judge Lance E. Walker ordered Grant, age 43, to serve 12 months and one day in prison followed by two years of supervised release. Grant had pleaded guilty to the charges on November 17, 2025.

Court records show that in March 2025, officers from the Kittery Police Department responded to a report of possible shoplifting at the Kittery Trading Post. Police identified Grant among a group who had just left the store and found a .22 caliber pistol and a box containing 100 rounds of .22 caliber ammunition during a search of his jacket. Due to previous felony drug convictions in New Hampshire, Grant was prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the case with help from the Kittery Police Department.

This prosecution is part of Operation Take Back America, an initiative that uses resources from the Department of Justice to address illegal immigration issues and violent crime through efforts such as Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).

Authorities said this case reflects ongoing efforts to enforce laws prohibiting felons from possessing firearms.
