A Mexican national has been sentenced in Portland, Maine, for illegally reentering the United States after being previously removed. U.S. District Judge Nancy Torresen sentenced Miguel Gomez-Sanchez, 45, to 10 months in prison following his guilty plea on June 26, 2025.

Court documents state that Gomez-Sanchez was arrested by the Maine State Police on May 10, 2025, for operating under the influence on Interstate 95. Subsequent investigation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) revealed that he had been removed from the United States several times. His most recent removal occurred in 2022 after a conviction for illegal reentry.

The case was investigated by ICE ERO.

“Operation Take Back America: This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime. Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) and Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN).”
