The Maine Attorney General’s Office has created a dedicated email address for residents to report actions by federal agents in the state. This move comes as federal authorities increase their presence in Maine for immigration enforcement.

According to the office, there have been reports across the country of possible civil rights violations and improper use of force by federal agents during immigration enforcement operations. The statement notes that similar concerns are now arising in Maine: “With the federal government now surging federal agents into Maine under the banner of immigration enforcement, evidence of constitutionally-deficient, excessive, and intimidating enforcement tactics is quickly emerging in our own state.”

To monitor these activities and determine what steps may be necessary, the Attorney General’s Office asks Mainers to send information about incidents involving federal agents to CitizenReporting.OAG@maine.gov. The office will review submissions for potential violations of constitutional rights or state laws such as the Maine Civil Rights Act.

The public is encouraged to include details such as date, location, names of those involved or who witnessed incidents, and contact information. While photographs and videos should not be sent directly via email, individuals can indicate if such materials exist so arrangements can be made to collect them if needed.

The office also advises that emails sent may be subject to disclosure under Maine’s Freedom of Access Laws. Additionally, this email address is not intended for requests for legal advice or representation.
