Lewiston man pleads guilty to cyberstalking in federal court

A Lewiston resident has admitted in federal court to stalking a victim through the use of online tools and electronic communication. Brent Ouellette, 33, pleaded guilty on Thursday in U.S. District Court in Portland to charges related to cyberstalking.

Court documents show that Ouellette’s actions continued until around August 2021. During this period, he posted sexually explicit images and videos of his victim online without consent, impersonated other people while contacting the victim, and gained unauthorized access to the victim’s social media accounts.

Ouellette could face up to five years in prison and a fine as high as $250,000. Sentencing will take place after the U.S. Probation Office completes a presentence investigative report. The final sentence will be determined by a federal district court judge based on the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other relevant legal factors.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation led the investigation, with support from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
