A Honduran citizen has been sentenced in U.S. District Court in Portland, Maine, for illegally reentering the United States after being removed from the country.
Maynor David Casalegno Escobar, 29, received a sentence of time served—124 days—by U.S. District Judge John A. Woodcock, Jr., following his guilty plea on May 30, 2025.
Court records show that Casalegno Escobar was encountered by U.S. Border Patrol Agents during a traffic stop in Portland on April 10, 2025. After his arrest, he confirmed to authorities that he was born in Honduras and was not a U.S. citizen or authorized to be present in the country. He also admitted to having previously been deported from the United States, which officials verified through records checks.
“This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime. Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETFs) and Project Safe Neighborhood (PSN).”
