A Guatemalan national was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Portland, Maine, for illegally re-entering the United States after previously being deported.
Chief U.S. District Judge Lance E. Walker ordered Marvin Aguilar-Lopez, 24, to serve time already spent in custody—approximately four months—for the offense. Aguilar-Lopez entered a guilty plea on May 29, 2025.
Court records show that Aguilar-Lopez was stopped by Old Orchard Beach police officers in March 2025 due to a taillight violation. During the stop, he presented an invalid international license and told officers he was from Guatemala. Immigration authorities later confirmed that he had been removed from the United States in 2023 and did not have legal documentation permitting his return.
The investigation into the case was led by U.S. Border Patrol.
“This case is part of Operation Take Back America, a nationwide initiative that marshals the full resources of the Department of Justice to repel the invasion of illegal immigration, achieve the total elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect our communities from the perpetrators of violent crime. Operation Take Back America streamlines efforts and resources from the Department’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) and Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN).”
