A Guatemalan national, Marvin Aguilar-Lopez, has entered a guilty plea in the U.S. District Court in Portland for re-entering the United States illegally following a previous deportation. The incident leading to this plea occurred when Aguilar-Lopez was stopped by Old Orchard Beach police officers in March 2025 due to a taillight violation.
During the stop, Aguilar-Lopez presented an invalid international license and identified himself as being from Guatemala. Immigration records indicated that he had been removed from the U.S. in 2023 and lacked any valid visa or documentation permitting his return.
Aguilar-Lopez could face up to two years of imprisonment, a fine reaching $250,000, and up to one year of supervised release. His sentencing will occur after the U.S. Probation Office completes a presentence investigative report. A federal district court judge will determine his sentence based on the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
The case was investigated by U.S. Border Patrol and is part of “Operation Take Back America.” This initiative seeks to use the Department of Justice’s full resources to combat illegal immigration, eliminate cartels and transnational criminal organizations (TCOs), and protect communities from violent crime perpetrators.
