A former postal employee from Farmingdale has pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Portland to stealing mail while working at the Auburn Post Office.

Court records show that Shannon Littlefield, 29, took cash and gift cards from greeting cards during her time as a Service and Distribution Clerk between May 2016 and March 2025. Surveillance footage captured Littlefield on three occasions in March 2025 removing mail from bins and concealing it under her clothing. When questioned by investigators from the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General, Littlefield admitted to stealing mail for about eight months, specifically targeting greeting cards containing cash or gift cards.

Littlefield could face up to five years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, and three years of supervised release. Sentencing will occur after a presentence investigative report is completed by the U.S. Probation Office. The final sentence will be determined by a federal district court judge based on the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other legal considerations.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Postal Service Office of Inspector General.
