The United States District Court for the District of Maine hosted a naturalization ceremony on March 6, 2026, at the Gignoux Courthouse in Portland. The event was presided over by Judge Stacey D. Neumann.

Senator Angus King and representatives from each office of Maine’s Congressional delegations attended the ceremony. Thirty individuals from 17 countries became new citizens of the United States during the event. The countries represented included Armenia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Columbia, Congo, Dominican Republic, Egypt, El Salvador, Germany, Guatemala, India, Iraq, Russia, South Korea, Spain, and Vietnam.

Judge Neumann addressed the new citizens and those present in the courtroom by stating: “A naturalization ceremony is one of the purest expressions of what this country aspires to be. America is not defined by ancestry, heritage, or any single story. It is defined by an idea: that people from every corner of the earth can join together to build a more generous, creative, and hopeful future.”

A complete copy of Judge Neumann’s remarks has been made available on the Court’s website.
