The United States District Court for the District of Maine announced on Apr. 16 that it will host a free educational program for high school students from July 20 to July 24, 2026, in Portland. The event is organized in partnership with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit and the Supreme Court Historical Society.

The initiative aims to give students a closer look at how the federal court system works and foster an understanding of constitutional rights. By participating, students will have opportunities to interact directly with judges and legal professionals.

According to organizers, participants will examine a local Sixth Amendment case, work together with peers on related projects, and engage with Federal Judges, historians, and local attorneys throughout the week-long program. The sessions are scheduled to take place at both the Gignoux Courthouse and University of Maine Law School.

The program is open to all high school students entering grades nine through twelve during the 2025-2026 academic year. Organizers encourage interested individuals to review further details provided in an attached flyer.

This outreach effort reflects ongoing attempts by federal courts and their partners to increase civic education among young people by offering firsthand experiences within judicial settings.
