Creditors are being warned about a potential scam involving Proof of Claim (POC) forms. According to a recent notice, some individuals may receive mail requesting them to file a POC through the services of a non-governmental agency for a fee. The notice states that this could be fraudulent.

The court advises creditors that they can file an electronic Proof of Claim (ePOC), amend a claim, or submit claim attachments for free, without needing to log in or have a password for CM/ECF. If there is an appointed claims agent for the case, the proof of claim should be filed directly with that agent and no fees should be charged.

“No fees are associated with when using an electronic Proof of Claim (ePOC), which is linked below, or when a case has an appointed claims agent,” the notice says.

For those needing to file or amend a Proof of Claim, official resources are available at File a Proof of Claim or Amended Proof of Claim.
