A Canadian man has been sentenced in the U.S. District Court in Bangor for crossing into the United States with methamphetamine. Nathan Paul Curran-McQuade, 31, received a sentence of 12 months and one day of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release for importing a controlled substance. Additionally, he was given a concurrent sentence of 100 days for unlawful entry into the U.S.
Curran-McQuade had pleaded guilty to these charges on January 21, 2025. The incident occurred in September 2024 when U.S. Border Patrol agents from the Van Buren station apprehended him in Caswell after he illegally crossed from Canada. He was operating an ATV on a trail marked with international boundary signs.
At the time of his arrest, Curran-McQuade possessed approximately 13.9 grams of methamphetamine and marijuana stored in a mason jar within his backpack. He told agents that he was heading to a store in Caswell to purchase gas and claimed that the drugs were intended for personal use.
The case was investigated by U.S. Border Patrol.
