A Brazilian national was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Bangor for illegally re-entering the United States after being previously deported.

Americo Lopes-Da Silva, 37, received a sentence of time served from U.S. District Judge John A. Woodcock, Jr. Lopes-Da Silva had pleaded guilty to the charge on May 20, 2025.

Court records show that on April 7, 2025, a U.S. Border Patrol Agent from the Rangeley Border Patrol Station conducted a routine patrol and checked the license plate of a white van registered in Massachusetts. The check indicated that the vehicle was registered to an individual who entered the country in 2018 and overstayed their visa. After stopping the van, the agent found two occupants: the driver and passenger Americo Lopes-Da Silva. Both admitted they were present in the country without legal authorization.

The men were transported to the Border Patrol station for further checks. Authorities determined that Lopes-Da Silva had been ordered removed and deported from the United States in 2021.

The case was investigated by U.S. Border Patrol.
